1 in 6 | Episode 081

Episode summary introduction:

This conversation is an important conversation needing to be discussed. Most times when people speak about sexual assault and/or abuse the thought correlates to women being the victims. But that’s far from the truth. Boys and Men are also victims of assault. This is so under-discussed that the statistics are believed to be low and under-reported as many boys/men do not report their assaults.

Topic 1:

More children are being abused, male or female. More children are being kidnapped. They are becoming the victims of sex tracking and child pornography. Unfortunately, it’s not always a stranger.

Topic 2:

The reason male sexual violence is under reported is because of the shame and stigma attached to the assault. This statistic, “Only 16% of men with documented histories of sexual abuse considered themselves to have been sexually abused.” we mentioned earlier is sad and staggering.

Topic 3:

Warning signs

Outro:

If you or someone you know are a victim or survivor of assault please call the 24-Hour Crisis Hotline: 1-800-656-4673 (HOPE).
