Episode title: Long Covid/Episode 098
Episode summary introduction:
I’m sure at this point everyone is literally sick and tired of COVID-19. Especially those who have lost loved ones and those who have suffered from the virus itself. Some who suffered from contracting COVID-19 have had a very difficult time recovering to their previous COVID state, not knowing if they ever will.
Long haul covid is difficult to define because for lack of better words, it’s a current, working and ever changing diagnosis. Since it may be one chronic condition or several post covid conditions it makes it difficult to clearly define. Long haul covid symptoms can occur in those who tested positive but were asymptomatic.
Signs and Symptoms
I wanna talk about the elephant in the room when it comes to long-covid… the disbelief of patients. Recently, I read an article from the New England Journal of Medicine that talked about long-covid; and from what I’ve read, I am not the only one who seems to pick up on long-covid being ignored.
As Covid-19 is ever changing with 5 known variants, it does have the potential to continue to mutate leading to other variants. COVID-19 is still new and we are still in the learning process of the virus. As nurses and medical professionals, we have to address this postinfection condition and continue to research and collect data to help others affected. It will take years post COVID-19 for proper research and data to show the real long lasting effects of COVID-19.
